What does “New Heights in Imaging Informatics” truly mean for providers? At the 2025 SIIM (Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine) Annual Conference, this theme was at the forefront with a strong emphasis on:
In this recap, I’ll explore these themes and share key takeaways from the 2025 conference, focusing on how PocketHealth is addressing these challenges.
Interoperability continues to plague imaging IT, and this year at SIIM, experts presented innovative solutions across several sessions. One such session highlighted learnings from RSNA’s Radiology Reimagined demos, sharing insights into real-world use cases and technical workflows for AI integration. Attendees gained knowledge of interoperability standards and integration methods for incorporating AI solutions into radiology workflows.
Another impactful session explored digital pathology in enterprise imaging and emphasized the importance of a unified system for radiology and pathology images. This discussion focused on reducing complexity, lowering costs and enhancing clinical workflows.
During a session on modernizing enterprise image exchange, attendees learned strategies to secure data exchange and business continuity—issues that are core to how and why PocketHealth was built.
We’ve focused on addressing interoperability challenges with network-agnostic image exchange, enabling provider sharing across multiple systems, both within and outside of their existing networks. PocketHealth integrates with existing healthcare IT environments to eliminate network dependencies and consolidate image-sharing processes for increased efficiency. This has translated into proven savings, such as University of Cincinnati Health realizing over $300,000 in annual savings and Jefferson County Health Center saving more than 1,000 hours per year.

Not surprisingly, patient engagement was a major focus at SIIM 2025, with several sessions discussing how AI can enhance the patient experience. Discussions included the panel on generative AI’s integration and impact on radiology, where AI’s role in streamlining workflows, supporting the patient journey and improving communication with patients was highlighted. As a panelist, I shared how AI helps patients adhere to care plans, reduces anxiety and empowers them to ask informed questions. This leads to better outcomes, reduced liability and improved patient retention. Notably, patients are already using AI to interpret their reports. However, since effective prompting is key, weaving AI into the imaging process is essential. Other discussions included leveraging AI to support the patient journey.
PocketHealth similarly leverages AI solutions to drive patient engagement, improve follow-up adherence and build stronger relationships with patients. Our clinical AI detects follow-ups in radiology reports and patients are automatically notified via follow-up alerts to ensure they receive timely and necessary care.
Staff simultaneously receive follow-up notifications through Follow-Up Navigator, which streamlines workflows by integrating with existing systems (EMR, email, or fax) and providing real-time updates. This enhanced workflow can increase follow-up capture rates by 30% and generate $2.4 million in annual incremental revenue*, ultimately freeing up valuable staff time for more direct patient care.
Complementing this is MyCare Navigator, which includes AI-powered tools that provide patients with insights into their imaging results. This drives engagement and improves retention, empowering patients to better understand their health and have more productive conversations with their doctors.

During SIIM, PocketHealth hosted an Industry Connect Session, Closing the Loop: AI, Patient Engagement, and the New Era of Imaging Informatics. We explored the critical issue of access and interoperability, emphasizing that resolving them together leads to significant improvements.
The first step in closing the loop is ensuring critical information isn’t fragmented but is readily available for patients, providers and referring physicians. We discussed how AI, patient engagement and image exchange are not separate solutions but one cohesive approach that closes the loop in patient care.
We invited a group of experts to explore how AI-powered image release and patient engagement streamline workflows, automate follow-up management and improve care coordination. I had the pleasure of moderating this session with panelists including:
PocketHealth Industry Connect panel with PocketHealth CEO & Co-Founder Rishi Nayyar and panelists Carl Swanson, Dr. Ram Chadalavada and Tom Hasley
Through real-world case studies, panelists provided tangible and actionable strategies, highlighting how AI reduces manual processes, improves efficiency and strengthens referring physician relationships while delivering a better patient experience.
SIIM 2025 was an inspiring and informative conference that provided valuable insights into the future of imaging informatics. The exchange of ideas on interoperability, patient engagement and leveraging AI will undoubtedly shape the future of the field.
