About North York General Hospital

A doctor’s referral or requisition form is necessary for imaging services at North York General Hospital (NYGH), with the exception of services offered under the Ontario Breast Screening Program (OBSP), which allows eligible patients to self-refer.

Yes, services through NYGH are covered under OHIP with a valid Ontario health card. Some imaging services at NYGH clinics can also be paid out-of-pocket without a health card.

North York General Hospital will send your results to your referring physician, typically within a week of your test. For quicker access, you can use PocketHealth to easily view and share your results, often before your follow-up appointment.

Offering a wide spectrum of medical imaging services to the North York region, North York General Hospital is located at 4001 Leslie Street in Toronto. They also have an Outpatient and Community Services Centre at 2 Champagne Drive.

X-rays are available on a walk-in basis and do NOT require an appointment.

A doctor’s referral is required for imaging services from North York General, except for breast screening exams through the Ontario Breast Screening Program (OBSP), for which eligible patients can self-refer.

If your doctor places the requisition directly, the hospital will call you to arrange your appointment. Otherwise, there is a separate phone number for each type of medical imaging, available on their website.

The results of your imaging test will be sent to your referring doctor, who will then set up a follow-up appointment to discuss your images and report with you.

You can access your results prior to your follow-up appointment with PocketHealth, along with tools to help you better understand your results and personalized insights based on your report.

North York General offers breast screening as part of the Ontario Breast Screening Program (OBSP) at their Outpatient and Community Services Centre (2 Champagne Drive). Those who meet the eligibility criteria can contact the center to schedule an appointment: 416-756-6931.
