Yes. In most cases, you do require a referral before you can schedule a medical scan. One exception to this is for patients between the ages of 40 and 75 who don’t have a history of breast cancer and want a mammogram appointment. They can schedule a screening mammogram without a referral. In the near future, this age range will lower to 40 so that more patients can take advantage of this preventative screening.
Yes. Sinai Health has bone density scans, breast imaging and prenatal and gynecologic ultrasounds as well as other specialized scan techniques.
You’ll want to find a location near you and call for scheduling. Their two hospitals are Mount Sinai hospital (phone number is 416-596-4200) and Hennick Bridgepoint hospital (phone number is 416-461-8252). Both have numerous imaging specialties to offer.
Sinai Health imaging specialists will send your results to the referring doctor, usually within a week. Patients can use PocketHealth for faster access, viewing results as soon as they are uploaded. This allows you to review and share your report, often before your next follow-up appointment, so you can be better prepared.
