Breast Tomosynthesis

What is Breast Tomosynthesis and How Does it Work?

Breast tomosynthesis is an advanced type of mammogram that uses low-dose X-rays to produce 3D images of the breast. It is also known as a “3D mammogram”.

Breast tomosynthesis is used to screen for breast cancer. It improves the possibility of detecting early breast cancers and also decreases the possibility that someone will need to return for additional testing that is ultimately negative for cancer. It is also a helpful screening tool for those with dense breasts.
